What to Expect at the WRO 2025 Regional Championships
The WRO Regional Championships aren’t just competitions but an experience. Each city-level event is designed to test not only your robot’s performance but also your team’s problem-solving skills, creativity, and collaboration.
Here’s what participants, mentors, and parents can look forward to at every WRO 2025 regional:
Hands-On Robot Performance Rounds
Teams will demonstrate their robots completing real-world themed challenges based on the WRO 2025 “Future of Robots” concept. Precision, efficiency, and innovation will be key scoring factors.
Project Evaluation & Judging
In categories like Future Innovators, teams will present their problem-solving approach, research insights, and engineering design. Judges will evaluate creativity, feasibility, and the robot’s alignment with this year’s futuristic theme.
Teamwork & Collaboration
WRO is not just about coding and hardware, it’s about communication and teamwork. Judges will observe how team members collaborate under pressure and how they present their ideas clearly and confidently.
On-Ground Support & Practice Zones
Each venue will provide:
- Robot check-in stations
- Practice arenas for test runs
- Technical support for minor troubleshooting
- Volunteer assistance and guidance
Important Guidelines for Regional Participation
Before stepping into your regional round, all Future Innovators teams must follow these WRO India 2025 competition rules:
- Water Usage: If your project requires water, a maximum of 5 liters will be provided. Inform the organizing team at least 2 days in advance.
- Drone Restriction: Flying drones is strictly prohibited inside the venue.
- Display Setup: All project components must fit within your allotted table space (usually 4 ft x 2 ft). No extensions beyond the table are allowed.
- Standee Rules: You can place standees next to your table—front, back, or side—but they must not block walkways or other teams.
- Poster Placement: Posters can only be kept on the table surface. Do not stick anything to walls or venue property.
- Fire Safety: No open flames or fire-based elements are allowed in your setup or demonstration.
These guidelines help ensure a safe, fair, and smooth experience for all teams at the Regionals.
WRO India 2025: Pathway to Nationals
WRO India 2025 introduces a refined progression model, giving participants a clear roadmap to reach the National Championship.
What’s New in WRO India 2025?
- RoboMission no longer has Regionals – teams now go directly to Nationals
- Number of Regionals increased: from 6 to 9 key cities across India
- Future Innovators retains its 3-stage journey: Virtual → Regionals → Nationals
Future Innovators (FI) – 3-Stage Progression
- Virtual Championship (Level 1):
Teams begin with virtual submissions, evaluated by judges based on WRO rubrics. Top 400 teams from across the country qualify for the next round.
- Regional Championships (Level 2):
These shortlisted teams will compete in one of nine regional events held in cities like Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai, etc.
- To progress further, a team must score at least 33% of the max game score.
- From each regional, 1 out of every 4 teams (or part thereof) qualifies for Nationals.
- Additionally, each regional may also send:
1 host school team
1+ CSR-supported Robo Siksha Kendra team
- National Championship (Level 3):
Teams that advance from the Regionals will compete at the national level. Any unfilled slots will be filled from the national ranking list.
Bonus for Participants:
- Certificate of Participation for all team members
- On-site photography & media coverage
- Chance to network with other STEM enthusiasts, educators & professionals
RoboMission, RoboSports & Future Engineers – Direct Entry to Nationals
- RoboMission: Previously conducted at regionals, now this category goes directly to Nationals.
- Future Engineers: Continues with direct Nationals entry, no regional round.
- RoboSports: No changes – starts at Nationals just like previous years.
These categories offer a more streamlined path, allowing top-tier teams to showcase their skills directly at the national platform.
Whether you’re a returning champion or a first-time team, the regionals are where the WRO journey truly begins with energy, excitement, and endless opportunities to learn.
How to Prepare for WRO 2025 Regionals
With the regionals just around the corner, the key to success lies in smart preparation. Here’s how your team can stay ahead:
Revisit the Game Manual & Rules
Make sure your entire team is familiar with the official rules, game setup, scoring criteria, and challenge-specific instructions. Every point counts, and knowing the rules inside out gives you a competitive edge.
Test Your Robot Under Real Conditions
Replicate the challenge setup at school or home and run multiple test rounds. Pay attention to consistency, speed, and error handling—these are often the deciding factors on game day.
Assign Clear Roles Within the Team
Whether it’s coding, building, documenting, or presenting—make sure each team member knows their role. Strong teamwork and communication are just as important as the robot itself.
Practice Your Presentation
If your category involves project explanation (like Future Innovators), practice your pitch. Be ready to explain your idea, research, and the problem your robot solves in simple, clear language.
Pack Smart
Don’t forget:
- Extra sensors, cables, and tools
- Chargers and batteries
- Laptops with backups of your code
- Physical documents, printouts, ID cards, etc.
A well-prepared team isn’t just ready for success. They’re ready for anything the day throws at them.
