WRO India FAQs

For the Future Innovators category, teams develop an innovative solution aligned with the official WRO 2026 theme – “Robots Meet Culture.” There is no fixed problem statement; project ideation and development are entirely driven by the team.
For RoboMission, RoboSports, and Future Engineers, challenges are defined in the official rulebooks.

Registration fees vary by category and event stage. The detailed fee structure is available on the WRO India 2026 Registration Page.

The application template is available on the registration page and must be submitted on official school letterhead to wro@indiastemfoundation.org. Upon verification, the team will be activated within 3 working days, and confirmation will be sent via email.

Yes. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to slot availability for each category and event.

Yes. RoboMission has limited team slots per event, and teams are advised to complete registration early.

No. RoboSports allows participants the free choice of hardware and software, unless specific restrictions are stated in the official RoboSports rules.

Yes. All event schedules, virtual round dates, and official updates will be published on the WRO India website.

No. One team representative (coach or team leader) registers on behalf of the team and adds team members during the registration process.

Yes. E-Certificates are provided at all levels of the competition, including Virtual Rounds, Regional Championships, National Championships, and International Finals, as applicable.

Hardware platforms vary by competition category. Teams must strictly follow the category-specific rules and the General Rules mentioned in the official WRO India 2026 rulebooks.

Only materials permitted under the category-specific rules may be used. All projects must comply with safety and ethical guidelines.

The official theme for WRO 2026 is “Robots Meet Culture.”

Yes. Teams may explore general problem areas related to culture and robotics, but final project development must clearly align with the official theme.

No. WRO India does not provide project ideas, examples, or predefined domains. Teams are expected to independently brainstorm, research, and develop original solutions that align with the WRO 2026 theme

Yes. The official Project Submission Template and detailed guidelines are available on the WRO India website under the Future Innovators category.

Project submission must be done as per the timeline mentioned on the WRO India website after successful registration, following the official theme announcement

A complete working prototype is not mandatory at the time of registration. However, teams must meet the submission and demonstration requirements specified for the virtual round

Team progression depends on event structure, registrations, and competition criteria. Any changes or direct qualifications will be officially communicated by WRO India.

RoboMission FAQs

Yes. If the team starts the run, bonus points can be awarded even if the robot does not leave the Start Area. Bonus points are awarded, provided that the corresponding bonus objects are not moved or damaged.

  • The maximum allowed battery voltage has been updated to 14.8V (nominal value).
  • The 4A current limit has been removed (General Rule 5.2.4).
  • The maximum battery capacity remains unchanged at 6,000 mAh (General Rule 5.2.2).
Yes, that connection of hubs / controllers with optical communication is possible as long as it cannot be used to transfer information from outside the robot.
This will not be considered a wireless communication as mentioned in rule 5.6.
If used, teams have to make sure that both hubs / controllers are stopped, when pressing the stop button.

If a mission model is stacked on the robot or another mission model, no points will be awarded for the stacked element even if it seems to be completely inside the target area.

However, if the mission model is stacked on another element and is touching the target area, points will be awarded based on its position:

  • If the mission model is completely touching the target area, the team will receive the full points for that task.
  • If the mission model is partially touching the target area, the team will receive the applicable partial points for that task.

Elementary 

A microphone that is not fully touching the floor should not be considered upright. According to the game rules, 20 points are awarded only when the microphone is completely in the microphone target area and upright. In this situation, the microphone is not upright, so the correct score is 10 points.

Junior

No. Only one red tower can score points per target area.If both towers are partly inside the same target area, the team receives points for only one tower.

Future Innovators FAQs

Due to this year’s theme, teams may bring up to a total of 1 liter of non-dangerous fluid materials for demonstration purposes.

This may include, but is not limited to, colored water, non-toxic paint, gels, or food-grade liquids (e.g. syrup or oil), as long as they are safe and do not pose any risk.
Teams should also bring appropriate protective coverings to avoid any spills or stains at the event location.

FutureEngineers FAQs

No, the robot must have the same size at the start of the round, while leaving the parking lot at the begin of the round and while parking in the parking lot at the end of the round. Parking must not be simplified by changing the size of the robot.
Yes. The robot does not have to follow the driving direction anymore. Therefore, parking in the opposite direction is allowed.
 

The distance is measured from the wheels to the wall to determine whether the robot is sufficiently parallel. If the wheels have different track widths and are not aligned, this will be taken into account and will not disadvantage the team.

RoboSports FAQs

Correct answer (24th of April 2026)

This year we allow any number and type of controllers. (Rule 8.12 does not apply this year)

Wrong earlier published answer:
While in the RoboMission category more than one controller may be allowed, in the RoboSports category each robot must have only one controller, in line with Rule 8.12.

The 9th orange ball was introduced to reduce the likelihood of a draw at the end of a round and to add an additional strategic element to the game. If the 9th ball remains in its starting position until the end of the round, a draw may still occur.

During the match, if all nine orange balls are on the same side of the field, the match ends early according to rule 6.32.4.

The 9th ball starts in the center of the field and is fixed in place using a method defined by the Event Organizers (for example, using a common LEGO 2815 Technic tire).

No. The battery itself must not exceed 12 V. Using a battery with a voltage higher than 12 V and reducing it with a voltage converter is not allowed. According to Rule 8.2.3, the battery must be the component with the highest voltage in the robot.
Match time will not be randomized in WRO India. The match time remains the same as previous season i.e. 120 seconds.
